The SSIL’s mission

The Service de sécurité incendie de Laval protects lives, property and the environment by helping manage risks and ensuring civil protection through prevention and emergency response actions.

To this end, the SSIL carries out prevention work aimed at educating the public about fire safety, it oversees the application of standards and regulations, and it responds to disasters and emergency situations. The SSIL also helps manage risks and civil protection.

The Service de sécurité incendie de Laval has nine fire stations spread out across Laval.

In addition, Laval firefighters respond to the following disasters and emergencies:

  • Life-threatening emergencies
  • Hazardous materials spill
  • Road and boating accidents, or extrications
  • Flooding
  • Ice and water rescues
  • Gas leaks
  • etc.

Annual ceremony and acts of bravery

The Service de sécurité incendie de Laval holds an annual Recognition Ceremony. This evening event includes a convocation and a swearing-in ceremony for new SSIL firefighters.

This ceremony also provides an opportunity to pay tribute to SSIL personnel and community members who perform acts of bravery.
