The risk of pickpocketing is higher in:
- Public places
- Parking lots
- Outdoor events
- Waiting lines
- Escalators
- Public transport during rush hours
- Cafés and restaurants
How to protect your electronic devices from theft
- Secure your device with a password.
- Set your device to lock after a short period of inactivity.
- Install an app that allows remote data wiping in case of theft or loss.
- Use an app to track your device’s location.
- Note your device’s international mobile equipment identity (imei) number, usually found in the settings.
- Avoid unnecessarily displaying your electronic devices in public.
What to do if your phone is stolen
- Call 911 and describe the suspect and their direction of escape.
- Provide the serial number and imei number to help police identify your device.
- Contact your wireless service provider immediately to disable your phone.
How to protect your data
